The Link Lesson Plan

Aim: How can you organize important links on your blog?
SBAT:
1. Use technology to help with organization
2. Prepare for the process of applying to college(s) and finanical aid
3. Utilize Google to search for specific pieces of information across the internet medium

Process:
DO NOW: 'Sign into your blog and go to your 'Layout" screeen
1. Show students the final result of ther 'Link list' on the Teacher's Blog
2. Demonstrate the process of adding a gadget called "Link List"
3. Demonstrate the process of using Google to search for links to the following websites:
*CUNY online application
* SUNY online application
*FAFSA online application
*GED Prep Websites (Kaplan; linked to the school's website)
*Careercruising.com
*Collegeboard.com

4. After each demonstration, have students walk through the process of adding the link to their blogs. Allow 2 - 3minutes for each link to be added

5. Allow 3 - 4 minutes for students to find links to website they would like to add to their blog

SUMMARY:
1. List the accomplished Goals for the day.
2. "What links did you decide were important enough to add to yoru site"

The Mayor Bloomberg Assignment

Aim: Should the mayor be running for a third term in office?
SBAT:
1. Follow the teacher's blog
2. Create a blogpost that responds to an embedded video
3. Use major media to engage in political discussion

Materials:
2. Handout; "Election Day!!!"

Procedure:
1. Demonstrate embedded video on the teacher's blog
2. Instruct students on how to follow the teacher's blog.
3. Distribute handout (below)
4. Begin activity. Allow 
5 - 7 minutes for logging in and following teacher's blog
7 - 10 minutes for watching (and re-watching) the video in the teacher's blog post
10 - 20 minutes for written response to prescribed questions
7 - 10 for assistance with proofing spelling and grammar
2 - 3 minutes to help with publishing

SUMMARY:
1. Have students share their blog posts
2. "Can anyone mention anything they heard from the student volunteers that was similar to what they wrote?"
3. "Listening to the student volunteers, has anyone 's initial opinion changed?"
4. Instruct students the three things that they demonstrated via the lesson
5. "Any other questions/comments?"
